Umoja

OutReach Africa is a non-profit organization that was established to raise funds to improve life in rural Africa. They buy handmade items from African villages at market value, import them here to the U.S. and sell them at U.S. market rates. All the proceeds from these sales go back to the villages in Africa and are used for medical suppplies, school buildings and supplies, and clean water projects.

One of the items being made by village men in Nkungi Tanzania is Native American Style Flutes.

Rick Dunlap, in his love for Native American Flutes, bought flute #27 in September 2005. As soon as he bought the flute, he decided to record his CD and donate the proceeds back to OutReach Africa.

This CD took 1 1/2 years to be completed and 900 CDs were shipped to OutReach Africa; we have only a few of these CDs left in stock.

A quick side story:

Just before the CD was printed, the OutReach Africa founders were leaving on a trip to Africa. They asked if Rick could send a copy of the mockup cover and music to share with the men who made the flutes.

When they showed the village men the cover with the title Umoja, which Rick found in a Swahili to English dictionary, they were thrilled.

You see that is what they call themselves, this group of men who make flutes. Proof again that we are all connected in Mind and Spirit.

All the flute recorded on this CD came from this one African Flute made from what the village men call the healing tree.
